Dustin GMAT One-on-One Online Tutoring
I often tell GMAT test-takers that GMAT preparation is difficult for three main reasons:
- Fragility of Motivation: Unlike mandatory exams like the GSAT or AST, this is a proactive investment in your life. While it seems you have the freedom to start and stop, it’s easy to discontinue preparation when faced with setbacks. Your motivation becomes especially weak when you’re unsure ‘why you’re studying’ for business school, ‘why you’re choosing this school,’ or ‘what this school can bring you in the future.’
- Reliance on Past Learning Paths: You’ve passed the age of simple living and peak energy, entering a phase with many external commitments and temptations. Relying on old exam strategies (like excessive practice or rote memorization) often fails to solve new problems like those on the GMAT. Heavy workloads and personal matters frequently disrupt study abroad plans.
- Low Self-Correction Ability: Except for a very few senior leaders in the industry, most test-takers, as ‘executors,’ can only see that they ‘made mistakes’ or ‘their scores haven’t improved,’ but they cannot trace back to precisely locate the root cause of the problem, let alone design effective solutions based on it.
This is why I’ve been sharing GMAT prep resources and methods online. You need more than just an answer to a single question; you need a structured consultation to break through the deadlock you’re currently facing.
Breaking the Deadlock: The GMAT Terminator’s Four-Stage Strategic Consultation Process

To give you the clearest understanding of our strategic consultation, we’ve prepared this detailed agenda. You’ll see that our discussion will be highly structured, with each step designed to combine your ‘qualitative perceptions’ with ‘quantitative data’ to produce the most effective study plan.
Phase One: Foundational Alignment and Top-Level Strategy (Approx. 10 mins)
Goal: Quickly align on objectives and establish the guiding principles that will maximize your learning efficiency.
- Opening and Goal Alignment: We’ll start with a relaxed greeting and reconfirm your ultimate target score for this GMAT prep.
- Time and Resource Allocation: Next, we’ll immediately move into the macroscopic ‘time and resource allocation.’ Based on the available time you provide, I will initially plan out your weekly study schedule directly on screen.
- Establishing Core Strategy: We will discuss a core strategy crucial to your overall learning. For example: ‘Given your overall score structure, should we place ‘Quant’ at the end of your daily study routine to ensure that time for priority items like ‘Verbal’ and ‘DI’ isn’t squeezed?’
Phase Two: Dual-Track In-Depth Diagnosis — Combining Your Perceptions and Data (Approx. 35-40 mins)
Goal: Tackle each subject one by one, identify the root cause of problems, and formulate precise solutions. This is the core segment where we spend the most time.
Here’s a typical process for analyzing a subject (e.g., Reading Comprehension RC):
- Starting with Your ‘Qualitative Labels’: We’ll first focus on the ‘qualitative diagnostic labels’ you’ve prepared. For example, you might share your feelings: ‘After practicing with the new materials recommended by the teacher, I clearly felt my speed slow down, and reading felt very stuck, which was a bit frustrating.’
- Stabilizing Mindset and Establishing the Correct Framework: Before analysis, I’ll first help you understand the nature of this phenomenon, explaining why it’s a normal, even necessary, process. For example: ‘This is completely normal because we are ‘administering strong medicine.’ It’s like an Olympic high jumper who trains at 170 cm to consistently clear 160 cm. Your current ‘stuckness’ is precisely to ensure you perform effortlessly on test day.’
- Verifying Against ‘Quantitative Score Reports’: Next, we’ll immediately examine the data to see the objective situation. I will point out data-driven evidence to confirm our assessment. For example: ‘Look, the data shows your reading speed actually improved from 120 wpm to 130 wpm, and the questions you got wrong were all high-difficulty questions taking over 1.9 minutes. This proves that your foundational ability has not regressed; in fact, it’s improving.’
- Delving into Specific Cases, Demonstrating Problem-Solving Mindset: We’ll select one or two specific passages or questions you’ve practiced. I will personally demonstrate how to elevate from a ‘literal translation’ level to a deeper understanding level of ‘explaining in your own words or with examples.’
- Producing Clear, Actionable Solutions: Based on the above analysis, we will jointly arrive at clear conclusions and action directives. For example: ‘The conclusion is that your focus at this stage is not blindly pursuing speed, but deepening your understanding stability when dealing with high-difficulty passages. Your specific action is: when practicing, try to rephrase the main idea of each paragraph in language that even a middle school student could understand.’
Phase Three: Integration and Final Deployment (Approx. 10 mins)
Goal: Consolidate the analysis results from all subjects into a comprehensive master battle plan.
- Setting a Specific Exam Schedule: Based on our overall discussion and your current status, I will give you a very specific recommendation, for example: ‘Given your current progress, I suggest you register for the exam in three to four weeks.’
- Planning Pre-Exam Sprint Strategy: We will discuss in detail how to arrange the last one or two weeks before the exam. This includes:
- How to Correctly Use ‘Mock Tests’: Clarify that the purpose of mock tests is to ‘practice pacing and endurance,’ not to ‘predict scores,’ to avoid affecting your mindset.
- How to Efficiently Use ‘Jijing’ (Exam Memory Aids): Discuss the usage methods, time allocation, and precautions for Jijing in each subject.
Phase Four: Open Q&A and Activation (Approx. 5 mins)
Goal: Answer all your questions and ensure you leave with momentum and a clear first step.
- Open Q&A: I will reserve ample time for you to ask any questions about the plan, ensuring you feel confident about every step.
- Empowering ‘Next Steps’: At the end of the consultation, you will leave with a clear blueprint and a defined ‘next step,’ ensuring you can start immediately and seamlessly.
