Reviewing for Rapid Improvement: A Beginner’s Guide

We’ve added step-by-step solution strategies for two Verbal question types to the blog, along with video explanations personally recorded by Dustin. In fact, these are the resources Dustin believes are most valuable for students:

Why does Dustin want to share these solution processes with you? Because he knows that most students misunderstand the GMAT, mistakenly believing that this exam requires memorizing a vast amount of rules and knowledge points, and then competing to see who can recall more during the test.

As a result, when reviewing, students fill the margins of their practice questions with more and more notes, fearing that missing even one point will lead to a low score. In the end, all this review does is help you “bury the evidence” of your mistakes on practice questions, and you’re still worried about “What should I do if I run out of new questions to practice?”

In reality, you shouldn’t focus on “writing explanations for the questions.” Practice questions should be used to reflect your own thinking blind spots. When we get a question wrong today, or struggle with a question, we should reflect on “At which step did I eliminate the correct answer? Where was my thinking flawed at that point?” “At which step did I mistakenly choose the incorrect answer? Is there a problem with my thought process somewhere?” Then, we should correct our thinking habits, rather than just writing down a bunch of seemingly detailed explanations that only apply to that specific passage type, without actually improving.

However, I know that many students lack a structured framework for their “problem-solving process” and “thinking steps.” This leaves them lost during review, forcing them to rely solely on the given options and write down scattered, cumbersome notes. Therefore, Dustin has decided to share this series of solution processes. These processes are not just my personal methods; they are a compilation of the thinking strategies of many V40+ test-takers I’ve interviewed. With such a complete framework, when you choose the wrong answer, you can shift your focus from “Why is this option wrong?” to a deeper analysis of “Which step in my thinking was incorrect?” and “How should I correct this step going forward?” This is how you can truly improve your abilities.

Please always remember, the purpose of review is to correct your thinking process, not to “bury the evidence” of your mistakes.
