The following advice represents Dustin’s personal experience and opinions, offered as a reference for GMAT self-study candidates in Taiwan.
1. Official Guide
The Official Guide, or OG, is currently on its latest edition, OG2016. The questions in the OG are the most representative and cover all the test points you’ll encounter. It’s the absolute core of your GMAT practice materials. I personally went through the OG four times during my preparation. Each time I revisited the questions, I gained a deeper understanding.

2. Official Verbal Review
3. Official Quantitative Review
These are official question sets that supplement the OG, often called OV and OQ. Think of the OG as your textbook and the OV/OQ as your workbook. Since the OG doesn’t have an endless supply of questions, the ones in OV/OQ are great for getting in more practice.
4. PREP
PREP is mock test software from GMAC. It provides mock tests with two separate question banks. Most test-takers use the older versions of PREP (2007, 2008, 2012) with their complete question banks, further expanding the number of official questions available for practice. I personally practiced with the PP question bank more than twice.
5. GWD
These are considered “semi-official” questions. They’re real GMAT questions, but they don’t come with official answers. The story is that test-takers in China brought them out of the testing center. The most common set you’ll find online is the TN-24, which has 24 practice tests.
The big upside is that they’re all actual GMAT questions. The downside? The answer keys circulating online are just educated guesses from people outside GMAC. Some questions are genuinely debated, with different people arguing for different answers, which makes them tough to review. I personally saved these for mock tests right before the exam to train my pace control under real test conditions.
