What’s this website about?

Many students ask Dustin:

“Why did you start this blog instead of putting the knowledge and content shared for free on the blog into paid courses and materials?”

Honestly, the initial idea was pretty straightforward:

To give those of us educated with rigid teaching methods a chance to start over and truly integrate into the world. This opportunity isn’t limited by wealth or status; it’s for anyone willing to put in the effort.

Therefore, in addition to the regular courses at A2GMAT, I opened a free GMAT teaching blog to share everything I know without reservation. When Dustin was at Jian Guo High School and National Taiwan University, he noticed something stark: most of his classmates came from middle-class or wealthy families. Their parents were often business owners, professors, or civil servants. (And yes, some already had green cards or maple cards.) With no worries about basic needs, they jetted off abroad every winter and summer, easily landing good internships. Their CVs already polished, their career paths seemed almost guaranteed to be smooth sailing. Dustin felt this inherent unfairness deeply. Even though he’s adjusted now, is financially independent, and loves his work, he can’t forget that there are likely many people out there, just like he used to be, trapped in a cycle they can’t break. They need a real opportunity. This is what I can do: persist in paving a path for those who cannot afford tutoring or lack access to resources. Those who are willing will follow. P.S. In 2014, about a year after this blog launched, I stumbled upon this report: Tutami Tao Dingguo: I want all children to be able to study abroad

On Wall Street, the divide between graduates from ordinary universities and Ivy League schools is massive. The resource gap between children from poor and rich families is equally vast. They often have to put in 3-6 times the effort just to achieve the same results. Through sheer hard work and meticulous planning, he became an Assistant Vice President at Credit Suisse by 24, later moving to Fixed Income as a Vice President.

But one day, at 28, Tao Dingguo suddenly paused and asked himself, “Do I actually like this life? I think I should become a full-time teacher and help those impoverished families, especially those newly arrived in the US and feeling ‘helpless’.”

“The next seven years were the happiest of my life. I taught over 20,000 students as a full-time teacher – kids from Queens, New York, white students from Brooklyn, and others from as far away as Kansas. Generally, these students came from families with average economic backgrounds. Seeing the look in their eyes during class always reminded me of myself back then.”

“To help more people, you have to share your methods widely.”

What I want to say is: Senior Tao, you are not alone. I am following in your footsteps.
