Finished Your GMAT Practice Questions? What’s Next?

“Dustin, where can I find new practice questions? When I retake the old ones, I already remember them, and I even know the answer after reading the first sentence of a CR question. What should I do?”

This is probably the most common and toughest complaint I hear from students preparing for the GMAT.

In the past, I didn’t have much to offer. I’d just say something like, “There are simply not enough official questions, and unofficial ones might not always align with the GMAT’s logic. We’ll just have to make do and practice the same questions over and over!” But honestly, neither my students nor I were really happy with that answer.

Then, with the rise of GPT, an idea sparked:

What if we could train an AI to learn the logic, question types, passage structures, and answer choice patterns of official GMAT questions, but replace the “story content” (what’s commonly called “skinning”)? This way, we could maintain the GMAT’s official testing philosophy while allowing students to practice new questions without the interference of memorization!

That led me to develop these two sets of “RC/CR Imitation Assistants.”

The Birth of the “RC/CR Imitation Assistant”: Preserving Official Logic, Creating Infinite New Questions

The AI assistant behind this tool has been trained on a massive dataset of official GMAT questions. This allows it to deeply understand the GMAT’s writing style and question patterns. I’ve spent a lot of time refining the prompts to ensure the assistant can perfectly mimic any question you give it, generating “variant questions” that share the same logic and testing points but use entirely new scenarios.

After our “Terminator” students started using it, everyone was thrilled. Finally, they had an endless supply of high-quality questions to practice with.

And we’ve even developed some more powerful advanced strategies!

Beyond Unlimited Practice: Three Advanced Strategies to Revolutionize Your GMAT Preparation

Strategy 1: Solidifying Weaknesses Through Targeted Practice

For questions you’ve gotten wrong, this tool can generate an endless stream of variant questions with the exact same logic. This means you can keep drilling the same flawed reasoning until you’ve truly mastered it!

Strategy 2: Desensitization Training for Specific Topics

Do you dread reading passages about archaeology, feminism, or astronomy? We can re-skin any question with these specific themes, allowing you to practice extensively until you’re no longer intimidated by these subjects. This helps you build confidence and familiarity.

Strategy 3: Ultimate Diagnosis – Using “Controlled Variables” to Uncover the Root Cause of Errors

I consider this the most groundbreaking application. For example, when a student gets a CR “Assumption” question wrong, the reason could be one of three:

  1. Topic Barrier: You’re unfamiliar with the “archaeology” context.
  2. Question Type Barrier: You don’t quite grasp “Assumption” logic.
  3. Structural Barrier: Unfamiliarity with the passage’s specific “logical structure.”

In these situations, I can use this tool to run a “controlled variable test.” We can keep the same logical structure but change the narrative to a business or everyday scenario. Or, we can keep the original story and structure but switch the question type from “Assumption” to “Weaken” or “Strengthen.”

If we find that the student suddenly starts getting the question right after a variable is changed, doesn’t that precisely pinpoint the root of their difficulty – whether it’s the “subject matter” or the “assumption logic”?

AI: Empowering Me to Become a Better Teacher

I am truly grateful for AI, which allows me to remain energized and continuously refine my teaching methods and diagnostic skills even after a decade of teaching. I’m also incredibly grateful to the “Terminator” students for trusting me and using the AI tools I’ve developed just for them.
