GMAT 705 High Score Study Experience: Successful First Attempt in Four Months, Achieved Full Score in Quant

Introduction

Because I’m not a very self-disciplined person, when I was searching online for GMAT prep materials, my goal was to find something that would give me a clear direction for my future studies. Later, I found that Dustin GMAT provided me with several important resources, including customized personal study plans, real-time online consultation services, and an AI GMAT prep platform. Timeline

After finishing my military service, I decided to give myself a chance to study abroad. For the test, I mainly wanted to give myself two chances to take it. So, I decided the timeline would be to start studying in September, take my first attempt in late December. If I didn’t do well, I could take a second attempt in mid-January, which would be just in time for the application deadlines. In the end, I was very lucky to score a high 705 on my first attempt.

Subject-Specific Insights

Reading Speed Training: The Foundation of All Subjects

Before I started preparing for each subject, DUSTIN always emphasized to me that reading speed is the foundation of all subjects. If your reading speed isn’t fast enough, no matter how good your problem-solving skills are, you might not be able to finish all the questions.

Therefore, for the first two months, I followed DUSTIN’s advice every day for reading speed training:
– High-quality reading materials
– AI tool assistance
– Personalized advice from DUSTIN based on my weekly progress reports

This allowed me to quickly increase my reading speed in those two months. It not only helped a lot with my GMAT test, but also made me feel very comfortable when taking the IELTS reading section later. This reading training isn’t just for tests; it’s also been a great help for my future studies abroad.

CR (Critical Reasoning)

In the Terminator course, DUSTIN provided different methodologies for different question types. The methodology primarily focused on how to identify the logical chain in the question, and then deeply analyze that logical chain to find any breaks or areas that needed supplementation.

Initially, using this method to solve problems might be slow. And because it required a lot of thinking, problem-solving could be more challenging, and the error rate would be higher. However, after reviewing with DUSTIN’s AI tool later on, since the AI tool was designed based on DUSTIN’s problem-solving methods, there was no issue of learning one method in class and then the AI giving you a different one.

Therefore, with the quick review facilitated by the AI tool, I was able to thoroughly review all my incorrect questions in a short amount of time and identify my problem-solving blind spots. It truly helped me achieve twice the result with half the effort.

RC (Reading Comprehension)

Because I spent a lot of time on reading training in the first two months, I didn’t feel intimidated when reading long passages. I could also grasp the main idea of the article quickly.

In the Terminator course, DUSTIN also taught us how to grasp the main idea of a passage and how to practice active reading. He also provided different problem-solving approaches for various question types, which allowed me to calmly tackle unfamiliar long passages during the actual test.

Quant (Math)

Since math was a subject I was confident in from the beginning, I spent a bit less time on it. However, KH’s course was very comprehensive. After watching KH’s lessons, I recalled all the math knowledge I had learned in high school.

Coupled with KH’s daily exercises and solution videos, I built a very solid foundation in Quant. In the end, I successfully achieved a perfect score on the test.

DI (Data Insights)

DI questions are quite unique, and they come in various types. I encountered quite a few difficulties when I first started solving them. However, DUSTIN’s and KH’s courses also greatly helped me; they provided different advice for different question types.

Moreover, the monthly seminars always provided updated problem-solving methods. For instance, in the TPA seminar before the test, DUSTIN mentioned that:
– TPA questions are different from CR. CR might have some confusing options, so you need to filter twice to choose the best answer.
– But TPA rarely has confusing options, so I recommend that when solving them, as soon as you see an answer you think is correct, just choose it directly. This can reduce solving time and help you finish all 21 DI questions.

Consultation and Study Tools

The biggest advantage of the Terminator class is that Dustin will have one-on-one consultations with you and create a customized study plan so you can systematically prepare according to it. You won’t be like a headless chicken, not knowing what to do each hour, or spending too much time on some subjects, leading to insufficient practice for others.

Each item gets trained daily, but never excessively. This also prevents me from getting too fatigued while solving problems and keeps things a bit fresh. Additionally, with weekly scheduled reports on my practice status, DUSTIN would also adjust my study plan based on my practice. After continuous iterations, it became the most suitable study plan for me at that moment.

Besides the weekly reports, I could also message DUSTIN anytime with questions. DUSTIN always replied quickly and offered advice. During these four months, I had both a human and an AI tutor. This really helped me a lot with my GMAT prep.
