今天要分享的終結者精華討論，是一個在中難度題目很常搭配考，但是很多人都不知道要怎麼分辨的考點「so….that…」（如此…以至於）以及「enough…to…」（足以…）

語意上看起來差別不大對吧？甚至我們在平常講話時，都不太會分。但是這裡讓我們來從語意邏輯上切入。

當我們想講「如此…以至於…」的時候，其實是強調一件事情的嚴重性。比如：

Tong God is so fat that he gets stuck in the door.
（統神肥到卡在房門）

我們在強調張嘉航真的有夠肥，肥到真的出不去，他可以是房門的四五六倍。如果我們把它改成enough to…的時候，會怎麼樣呢？

Tong God is fat enough to get stuck in the door.
（統神肥到足以卡住房門）

我們在強調的好像是：統神的體型剛好跨過那個「介於卡與不卡之間」的界線，剛剛好增重成功達成「卡住房門」的這個成就。

我們拿些正經一點的正確句來看：

One report concludes that many schools do not have, nor are they likely to have, enough computers to use them effectively.

不是在強調「電腦非常非常非常少」，而是在強調「連剛好能夠有效運用的標準」都搆不到。

Students in the metropolitan school district are so lacking in math skills that it will be difficult to absorb them into a city economy becoming ever more dependent on information-based industries.

強調的是「數學真的真的真的很廢」，而不是「剛好廢到跨過一個標準」，剛好無法於無法在現代社會立足。

The city has proposed a number of water treatment and conservation projects whose cost will raise water bills so high that even environmentalists are beginning to raise alarms.

強調「水費真的漲得夭壽高」，高到連環保份子都看不下去了。

Scientists at the Los Alamos National Laboratory have succeeded for the first time in mining heat from the Earth’s interior to produce energy on a commercial scale, enough for generating electricity efficiently and for heating factories and homes.

強調「地熱發電量剛過了個能商業運用的門檻」。

那麼回來這一題：

這題到底要強調「剛好」還是要強調「程度嚴重」才是合理呢？這必須從整句的語意下手，去想作者的true intention是什麼。這也是我們終結者SC第一堂課最強調的「語意解題的第一步，就是要去想作者的意圖」。作者到底想講什麼呢？在之前的文章裡，我說過有兩個步驟：

(1) 這會在怎樣的文章裡出現？
(2) 作者寫這句話的目的是什麼？

(1) 這應該是在講自然知識的文章出現，比如漢聲小百科之類的。
(2) 作者應該是要跟我們介紹流沙的天然性質。

現在我們可以來想了：對於世界上所有的流沙而言，到底都是「吸水到剛好過了一個標準，所以有了液體的特性」呢？還是「吸水非常多，以至於有了液體的特性」呢？

如果是前者的話，彷彿這世界上的所有流沙都是剛好過了一個標準，比如60%，然後不會有70%、80%、90%含水量的，全部的流沙都是剛剛好吸到可以擁有液體特性。但是我們都知道，常理而言流沙應該是「吸太多水的沙子，因為太多導致擁有液體的特性」，可能吸水量有60%、70%、80%甚至90%….，而不是剛好過了一個標準就好。所以語意表達上，強調程度的嚴重性比較合理。

很微妙的差別對不對？我知道，因為你還不習慣判斷語意，所以會覺得好難過。沒有關係，從現在開始，打開你手上的正確句，搜尋so….that…與enough的正確句自己讀過一遍，思考一下作者想強調的語氣跟邏輯為何，你就會逐漸掌握兩者的區別。
